Congratulations to Mickey Gordon MBE

Dear Friends,

I thought I would let you know, as you may have read it in the papers, that I am to receive an award in Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours List, the MBE -  a Member of the Order of the British Empire. This is to recognise my ‘services to education and young people’

My close friends Rose Albrow, who helped me set up the Leaside Trust 26 years ago and Rosemary Carawan, who helped with the Lottery Bids and was Chair of the Trust for over 10 years, nominated me some time ago. My daughter, Louisa, helped them source all the contacts who gave references and testimonials in support of the nomination. Although I am not allowed to know who these people are, I realise many of them came from people who I have known for a long time. The HM Cabinet Office and Honours Committee tell me that I received over fifty five letters of support and for this I am truly grateful.

This a great honour for me and one for which I am not sure I even deserve !!

I have thanked Rose and Rosemary personally and Louisa has been suitably ‘chastised’, a long overdue punishment, in my opinion !! - but I also want to thank and acknowledge all those friends who bothered to write those support letters. After I have been to the Palace, I will be having a small drink to celebrate and you will get an invite if you let me know who you are !!

Thank you again and thank you also all the young people who have let me into their lives.
