This was the pair’s second championship medal of the month having won the silver at the European Championships.  So committed were they to winning a medal today that they fell in after crossing the finish line.

“We knew going in we would be top four but we just had to execute the race and get onto the podium,” said Thomson.  “So to come out with a medal is fantastic.
At the half way stage we knew we were in contention and we just had to keep pulling. That was a magical moment which will stay in my memory forever

Surprisingly the pair have been paddling together for barely six months but they are already getting used to being on the podium.
“It’s a different world when you start getting called to go to the podium,” said Dembele.
“The Russians who won today have been paddling for about three years but we’ve been able to come through with what we’ve got. It’s really amazing.

August at the Rio Olympics

Lithuania’s canoe sprinters Aurimas Lankas and Edvinas Ramanauskas (ex Leaside) have won bronze in K2-200 m event in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Thursday.
The Lithuanian duo completed the distance in 32.382 s, delivering the 4th medal for Lithuania in the games. The Baltic state now has one silver and three bronze medals.

In the event, gold was won by Saul Craviotto and Cristian Toro of Spain (32.075 s) and silver went to London Olympics podium finishers Liam Heath and Jon Schofield (32.368 s) of the United Kingdom.
