Racing Successes

Leaside also has a self-funding, committed and active Racing Section who train regularly and race at local, regional, national and international level.  All ages take part and we regularly have members representing Great Britain.

Successes include:

Regular representation by at least one member of Leaside in the Great Britain Team for sprint or marathon racing.

2 members competing in the Olympic Games.

2 medal winners at Marathon World Cups.

Several wins at other international sprint and marathon competitions.

Most members (including juniors) have completed the Devizes to Westminster 125 mile canoe race and we have a good record of finishing within the top 3 in Senior K1, Senior K2, Mixed K2 and C2.  We have also regularly finished in the top 3 in the team event for both Senior K1 and Senior K2.

Several members have been National Championship medallists for their respective age groups at both sprint and marathon racing.

Regionally we regularly finish in the top 3 clubs in the winter series of races and have class winners and medallists.

Interested in joining our racing team?
We take part in both sprint regattas (racing over 200m, 500m and 1,000m) and also marathon races with varying distances from 3 miles for beginners to 125 miles.

We have a range of boats available at the club for members’ use from stable racing kayaks for beginners to high spec racing kayaks for the more advanced/serious athlete.  We also have several small racing kayaks (Lightnings) ideal for under-12s. The club also has racing doubles (K2’s) and fours (K4’s). We also provide storage for members own boats.
